HC Deb 29 July 1919 vol 118 c1922
71. Major HILLS

asked the Pensions Minister whether it is the case that the stepmother of a private soldier killed in action gets a permanent pension, but the stepmother of an officer killed in action does not, though in some cases she gets a temporary grant, and though she gets his service gratuity and his effects; and whether he can see his way to granting a permanent pension to an officer's stepmother?

Sir J. CRAIG

A permanent pension may be granted, subject to the conditions of the respective Royal Warrants applying to parents' pensions, to the stepmother of an officer, or a soldier, provided she has been in the place of a parent to the officer or soldier, and wholly or mainly supported him for not less than one year at some time before the commencement of the War.
