HC Deb 29 July 1919 vol 118 cc1918-9
22. Mr. SWAN

asked the Secretary of State for War whether men at Clipstone Camp, Notts, are standing to in readiness to proceed to strike-break; and whether armoured cars and Lewis guns mounted are ready to proceed at a moment's notice against strikers?

Captain GUEST

No troops are being held in readiness to proceed to "strike-break," and it has never been the policy of the Government to use troops for such a purpose. But I would refer the hon. Member to the statement made by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister on Monday of last week that the Government would take every means in their power to protect the mines.
