HC Deb 29 July 1919 vol 118 c1936
68. Sir F. HALL

asked whether, in view of the fact that extra leave is being given this year to those members of the Metropolitan Police who lost seventeen days' leave in 1914 on the outbreak of War, it is proposed to compensate the men who were serving at that time, but who retired before this concession was granted?

Mr. SHORTT

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the written reply which I gave on the 28th instant to the hon. and gallant Member for the Finchley Division.

Sir F. HALL

Is it to the effect that they are going to get any compensation?

Mr. SHORTT

I am afraid not.

Sir F. HALL

If it is considered right to give leave, which is the same thing as compensation, to the men who are now serving for the services rendered in 1914, is it not only fair that men who have retired should get compensation?

Mr. SHORTT

If my hon. and gallant Friend will refer to the reply, he will see the answer.
