HC Deb 29 July 1919 vol 118 c1939
76. Major HOWARD

asked the Food Controller whether he is prepared to make a detailed statement explaining the steps he is taking to increase the home production of cereals and meat?

Sir A. BOSCAWEN

The question raised by my hon. and gallant Friend is connected with the whole future of agriculture in this country concerning which I am not in a position to make a statement pending the inquiry of the Royal Commission.

Major E. WOOD

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that delay in making an announcement is likely to have the gravest possible effect on the whole agricultural production?

Sir A. BOSCAWEN

I am fully aware of the fact and feel that the sooner an announcement is made the better. I hope that we may have an early interim Report from the Royal Commission.

Mr. CAIRNS

Is the Minister in charge aware that the miners in Northumberland have only 4d. worth of butchers' meat per head allowed, which means a shortage of coal production?
