HC Deb 29 July 1919 vol 118 c1924
47. Lieut-Colonel MURRAY

asked the Prime Minister whether he is in a position to announce the appointment of a successor to the Earl of Reading as British Ambassador to the United States of America?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The answer is in the negative.

Lieut.-Colonel MURRAY

Will the right hon. Gentleman invite the Prime Minister to come to the House to hear the views of hon. Members on the deplorable delay in making this appointment?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I quite realise the harm delay is doing, and last week I said I hoped I should be able to make an announcement at the end of the week. I much regret I have not been able to do so, but the House may be assured that the Prime Minister is doing his best to fill the appointment.

Sir S. HOARE

Will my right hon. Friend be able to give an answer at the end of this week?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I was so unsuccessful in my hopes last week that I hesitate to express them again.
