HC Deb 28 July 1919 vol 118 c1793
75. Sir A. FELL

asked the Minister of Food if the quality of jam made in this country is to be improved this year; if jam made from particular fruits without the admixture of vegetable or other substances is to be sold; and if the very good supplies of cherries, raspberries, goose- berries, and currants are now being made in to jam?

Mr. McCURDY

It is proposed to eliminate from the schedule of varieties of jams certain mixtures, the manufacture of which was necessary last year owing to the failure of the fruit crop. The fruits referred to in the last part of the question are being bought so readily by the public for immediate consumption that the quantities being used for jam manufacture are below the average.

Colonel YATE

Can the hon. Gentleman say of what those mixtures consisted?

Mr. McCURDY

I should like notice of that.
