HC Deb 21 July 1919 vol 118 c889
53. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Prime Minister if he will state who are the British representatives on the Supreme Economic Council; what Vote the salaries and expenses of the British personnel of the Council come under; and what other nations are represented on the Council?

Mr. HARMSWORTH

As originally constituted, the British Empire was represented on the Supreme Economic Council by five delegates chosen from a larger panel according to the business to be transacted at each meeting. They included the Noble Lord the Member for Hitchin, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Acting-President of the Board of Trade, the Shipping Controller, the Food Controller, the Minister of Munitions, and myself, or, if they could not be present, their representatives. Representatives of the Dominions were also members. The Supreme Economic Council was only constituted for the period of the Armistice, and negotiations are now proceeding for the formation of some body which will maintain international consultation on economic subjects.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is there any Committee at all sitting now to carry out the very important work of the Supreme Economic Council?

Mr. HARMSWORTH

Oh, yes! the Economic Council is in session in Paris at the present moment.
