§ 82. Mr. ROWLANDSasked the First Commissioner of Works what steps have been taken with a view to secure the repair of the fencing between the Regent's Park and the Regent's Canal, which is in a dilapidated condition; and when it is intended to reopen those portions of the Regent's Park between the Outer Circle and the canal to which the public formerly enjoyed access?
§ The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Sir Alfred Mond)The Regent's Canal and Dock Company are responsible for the fence in question and have repeatedly been pressed by my Department to renew it. The Canal Control Committee of the Board of Trade has also 903 recently urged the Company to expedite the repairs. Until these have been effected, I regret that those portions of the park referred to by the hon. Member cannot be reopened on account of the danger to the public.
§ Mr. ROWLANDSIs there any chance of an early opportunity of the people again using this park which is so much required in that part of London?
§ Sir A. MONDI am doing my best. It is a very old question, and a difficult one to get the repairs done.
§ Captain REDMONDIs the right hon. Gentleman going to repair this with the timber used for the seats of the stand of Members of the House of Commons on Saturday?
§ Sir A. MONDThe question is not one under the control of my Department.
§ Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKEIs it not the fact that ammunition boxes were used for the stand for Members of Parliament?
