§ 15. Mr. ATKEYasked the President of the Board of Trade the amount of the economy effected by the Midland Railway Company in connection with converting their Nottingham station from an open one to a closed one; and whether the company have any record of the number of passengers who used the entrances and exits now closed?
§ Sir A. GEDDESAs stated in the reply to a question on this matter put by my hon. Friend on the 1st July, the railway company informed the Board of Trade that the reopening of the entrance to which he referred would involve the pro- 881 vision of additional booking-office accommodation, and the appointment of additional booking clerks and ticket collectors, but I cannot say what the amount of the economy arising out of the closing of the entrance is. I will inquire if the company have the record referred to in the last part of the question.
§ Mr. JOYNSON-HICKSWill the right hon. Gentleman send down an inspector to satisfy himself that there is great difficulty in Nottingham in getting people in and out of the station?
§ Sir A. GEDDESI will certainly have the matter looked into.
§ Mr. ATKEYCan the right hon. Gentleman give the particulars asked for in the first part of the question, and will he ask the railway company to furnish an exact statement?
§ Sir A. GEDDESI will certainly do so, but perhaps the other procedure suggested will be more satisfactory.
