§ 88. Sir J. BUTCHERasked the President of the Board of Education whether his attention has been called to the recent change in the mode of payment of pensions to superannuated teachers; whether he is aware that such change has led to delay in the payment of such pensions and to serious inconvenience to the persons entitled to such pensions; and whether he will take steps to ensure that these persons are paid their pensions punctually at the end of March, June, September, and December, as was done prior to the change?
The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD Of EDUCATION (Mr. Herbert Lewis)I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave to the hon. Member for the North-West Division of Kingston-upon-Hull on the 14th instant.
§ Sir J. BUTCHERHas this grievance been removed?
Mr. LEWISThe answer that was given on the occasion to which I have referred was that the delay was due to the shortage of staff at the Board of Education, and that every effort was being made to overcome it.
