§ 95. Lieut. - Colonel DALYRYMPLE WHITEasked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he can now give consideration to the claims of registrars of County Courts and their clerks, appointed in war-time, to be awarded the war bonus; and whether he is aware that some registrars are now without any emolument in return for their services'!
§ Mr. BALDWINI am not aware of any instance in which a registrar of County Courts is without any emolument in return for his services. The registrars referred to are practising solicitors who sought the office with the knowledge of a present and temporarily prospective diminution of remuneration, and the payments they make to their clerks in order to retain their cervices form an element in the bargain they entered into in accepting the office. The bonus given to registrars appointed before the War is in respect of loss of income, but the registrars referred to in the 41 question increased their incomes by obtaining a registrarship, and are therefore not eligible for such war bonus.
