asked whether Sir Horace Smith-Dorrien has asked for per mission to reply to the attack made upon- him by Lord French?

Mr. CHURCHILL

Yes, Sir; but the Army Council felt that it was undesirable-that permission should be given.

Mr. HOLMES

Why have the Army Council arrived at that decision?

Mr. CHURCHILL

Because Sir Horace-Smith-Dorrien is a serving soldier.

Mr. HOLMES
