§ 90. Mr. MORRISasked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the quarter of a million of workers of foreign nationality already in London, many of them in non-productive but lucrative occupations, he will state what restrictions are now imposed on the immigration of foreign workers to London; and whether he will recommend that special passport facilities be granted to foreign waiters and other foreigners now or recently on strike to enable them to proceed forthwith to their our countries and thus minimise unemployment amongst our own people?
§ Mr. WARDLEThe immigration of aliens to the United Kingdom during the War is controlled by the Aliens Restriction Order and in addition to the general instruction it is provided by Article 22b thereof that no person may import alien labour without the permission of the Ministry of Labour. This article is very carefully administered and permission has been given only where British labour was not available. As regards the question of the moving from the country aliens workmen who have been on strike, I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given on 13th February by my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary.
