HC Deb 01 December 1919 vol 122 c18
27. Mr. CLOUGH

asked the Minister of Transport how many lorries there are now in use in the actual task of reducing the congestion at the docks; and how many tons of goods each of these lorries is on the average estimated to move each week?

Sir E. GEDDES

The number of lorries at present allocated for this purpose is about 600, but these are not all constantly in use owing to necessary repairs and other reasons. The total tonnage conveyed during the week ending November 22nd was 10,946 tons.

Mr. BILLING

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether they find these lorries of any material assistance?

Sir E. GEDDES

Very little assistance. They are very expensive to work.
