HC Deb 18 August 1919 vol 119 cc1890-1
18. Mr. CHADWICK

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has yet taken steps to confirm the statement made by the managing director of the Marconi Company in a letter dated 30th July, and to which his attention was called on that day, namely, that a wireless apparatus could be so constructed as to respond only to the S.O.S. call by ringing a bell?

Sir A. GEDDES

Some inquiries have already been made on this subject, and it will have, to be thoroughly investigated in connection with the rules which the Board of Trade, in consultation with the Postmaster-General, have to make under the Merchant Shipping (Wireless Telegraphy) Bill.

Mr. CHADWICK

Has the right hon. Gentleman ascertained that the statement of the manager of the Marconi Company is a correct statement or not?

Sir A. GEDDES

That is the point we are investigating.
