Mr. GILBERT

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the exact number of constables and officers in the Metropolitan Police force who have been dismissed owing to the recent strike; if it is proposed to consider the special cases of any men who may ask for re instatement in the force; and, if so, can he give any indication of the kind of special cases that the Chief Commissioner will consider?

The number of Metropolitan police officers who have been dismissed in consequence. of their having refused or withdrawn from duty is 1,082. The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative, and the third part does not therefore arise.
