HC Deb 10 April 1919 vol 114 cc2227-8
94. Major WATTS MORGAN

asked the Postmaster-General whether the commercial ship and shore wireless stations formerly staffed and controlled by the Post Office are now staffed and controlled by the Admiralty; whether the Admiralty is at present carrying on a limited commercial wireless service through these stations; whether it is proposed that the Admiralty should permanently retain these stations; and, if not, will he say when the stations will be returned to the control of the Post Office and opened for ordinary commercial work?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

The answer to the hon. Member's first two inquiries is in the affirmative. The matters referred to in the remainder of the question are still under consideration.

Major MORGAN

Having regard to the dissatisfaction and friction arising, will the right hon. Gentleman expedite the return of the control to the Post Office?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

The whole thing is under consideration, and a Committee has been appointed, under the chairmanship of Lord Milner, which is going into these details.

Major MORGAN

When may we expect a reply?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

They held their first sitting this morning. I cannot give any idea when a reply will be given, but I hope before long.
