HC Deb 10 April 1919 vol 114 cc2199-200
20. Mr. A. SHORT

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether under the existing law children of fourteen, fifteen, and sixteen years of age can be employed in offices for eleven hours per day, inclusive of meal times; and, if so, will he consider the advisability of remedying by statute this menace to child life?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

There are no legal provisions restricting the hours of employment in offices of persons over fourteen years of age. My right hon. Friend hopes to be able to introduce legislation dealing with the hours of employment of young persons between fourteen and eighteen in all occupations not covered by the Acts relating to factories and mines.
