HC Deb 03 April 1919 vol 114 cc1364-5
34. Mr. WILLIAM CARTER

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that the passenger-train service between Sutton-in-Ashfield Junction and the town was discontinued during the War; and, as it is a very great inconvenience to the town of 30,000 population, will he favourably consider the desirability of using his influence in order to have the service resumed?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I am communicating with the Midland Railway Company on this matter, and I will write to the hon. Gentleman on receipt of their reply.

Lieutenant-Colonel Lord HENRY CAVENDISH-BENTINCK

Is my hon. Friend aware of the very great inconvenience caused to people living in and around Nottingham by the restrictions on suburban traffic, and will he take steps to see that it is improved?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I am very well aware of the inconvenience that exists there and in many other places, but the difficulty is one of transport and lack of rolling stock. I cannot promise that, it can be improved. If they possibly can, I am sure the companies will do it.
