HC Deb 03 April 1919 vol 114 c1359
23. Mr. LESLIE SCOTT

asked the Home Secretary if his attention has been called to the disaster and loss of life which recently occurred in Liverpool through the collapse of an old warehouse; and whether he can make any statement as to the cause or where the responsibility lies?

Mr. SHORTT

I have seen the distressing accounts in the Press, and have called for reports from the police and factory inspector, but the cause of the disaster and question of responsibility will be matters for searching investigation at the coroner's inquest, and it would not be right for me to make any statement at the present stage.

Mr. REMER

Were people left alive at the bottom of the building for twelve hours without any attempt being made to rescue them?

Mr. SHORTT

I am not aware of the details. The coroner's inquest will inquire into all these matters.
