HC Deb 03 April 1919 vol 114 c1388
88. Mr. MACQUISTEN

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Shipping Controller whether he or the Coal Controller have the decision of the order of preference in granting freight to coal shipped to neutral nations; and whether, in view of the fact that coal shipped realises 60s. to 90s. per ton as against 25s. to 27s. per ton for land sales coal, care is taken to allocate tonnage equitably and proportionately to the output of each pit?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the SHIPPING CONTROLLER (Colonel Leslie Wilson)

Save when special circumstances rendered it essential, no order of preference has been established for shipments to neutral nations. The first part of the question therefore does not arise. As regards the second part of the question the matter is entirely one for the Coal Controller.

Mr. MACQUISTEN

Can the right hon. Gentleman take steps to allocate shipping, seeing that some men are making a good deal of money while others have not the opportunity?

Colonel WILSON

I think that question should be addressed to the Board of Trade.
