HC Deb 03 April 1919 vol 114 c1394
45. Commander BELLAIRS

asked the Prime Minister, in view of the fact that the War has made comparisons of population for fixed periods, of time of little value, whether the Government, in order to arrive at important data as soon as possible, will make all arrangements for taking a census of the population in 1920 instead of 1921?

The PRESIDENT of the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Dr. Addison)

My right hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. I am very sensible of the need fox accurate population figures as soon as possible. But I anticipate that the distribution of the population should be much more normal in 1921 than next year, and for that and other reasons, I think it will be better to adhere to 1921 as the date for the periodical census.
