HC Deb 31 October 1918 vol 110 cc1583-4
87. Mr. O'LEARY

asked the Postmaster-General whether he will take steps to establish telegraphic or telephonic communication between the islands of Cape Clear and Sherkin and the mainland and thus give an impetus to the fishing industry off the South-West coast of Ireland?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Illingworth)

The provision of telegraph and telephone facilities at Cape Clear and Sherkin Islands has been considered on several occasions, but I regret that the small amount of business likely to be transacted would not justify the heavy expense which such provision would involve.
