HC Deb 31 October 1918 vol 110 c1614
115. Mr. SMALLWOOD

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he is aware that Private N. G. Swift was handed over at Selby, Yorks, on 28th October, as an absentee of one day; that his plea was that he was fed up with being sent out again and again; and that this soldier joined up at the age of seventeen and has now served over four years, having earned the Mons ribbon, three blue stripes, and five wound stripes; and will he say if this soldier had been at any time offered Home service as a relief?

The UNDER SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Macpherson)

Inquiries are already being made into this case, and I will acquaint my Hon. Friend of the result as soon as I am in a position to do so.
