73. Mr. HARRIS

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War how many women have been injured in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps and other women's units overseas, by shell-shock and other causes, due to military operations; and what compensation or allowances have been paid to them in lieu of pension?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The answer to the first part of the question is—

Officials.
Drowned at sea owing to enemy action 2
Members.
Killed (enemy air raid) 8
Died of wounds (enemy air raid) 1
Wounded and shell-shock (enemy air raid) 12
Cases of death or injury specifically attributable to service overseas are dealt with under the scheme framed under the Injuries in War (Compensation) Act, 1914 (Section 2), and I understand that various claims have been met.

Mr. HARRIS

Have all these cases been paid compensation?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I have just stated that various claims have been met.

Colonel WHITE

Is it not a fact that these deaths were caused in one area?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I believe that is true.
