§ 12. Major Sir EDWARD COATESasked the Foreign Secretary whether he is aware that persons of British nationality travelling in Germany before the War were forcibly imprisoned or interned some days before war was declared between this country and Germany; and has he any statement to make on the subject?
§ Mr. JAMES HOPE (Lord of the Treasury)It is possible that a certain number of British subjects were unable to leave Germany during the days immediately preceding the outbreak of war, and that some few of these were placed under arrest. I will have an inquiry made into any individual case if my hon. and gallant Friend will supply me with any data on which to proceed.
