54. Sir M. BARLOWasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that 302 Members of Parliament of all parties have signified in writing their approval of the proposal that a Select Committee of the House of Commons should be constituted of all parties to deal with pensions; and whether he can take steps to see that such a Select Committee of this House be forthwith constituted to deal with pensions and allowances and similar matters, or to grant a day for the discussion of the proposal?
§ The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Bonar Law)I regret that it will not be possible to arrange for this discussion before the end of the Session.
Sir M. BARLOWIn view of the possible approach of an election, cannot we have some statement of Government policy in regard to this before an election takes place?
§ Mr. BONAR LAWI recognise the importance of it, but it really is impossible to find a day. Perhaps my hon. Friend may raise it on the Third Reading of the Appropriation Bill.
