HC Deb 12 November 1918 vol 110 c2469
8. Mr. HAROLD SMITH

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he will reconsider the question of refusing chevrons to unwounded officers and men for the year or years of their captivity; and whether he will recommend the granting of such chevrons on conditions similar to the granting of the Mons star to unwounded officers and men?

39. Mr. BRUNNER

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether any distinction is made between wounded and unwounded prisoners of war with regard to the wearing of the 1914 star and ribbon and service chevrons; and whether he will state the reasons for such distinction, if any?

Mr. HOPE

I am informed by the military authorities that the Army Council have decided that both wounded and unwounded prisoners of war shall count time spent in captivity towards the award of additional chevrons. No distinction is made in the award of the 1914 star.
