HC Deb 05 November 1918 vol 110 c1934
92. Mr. FIELD

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he has received a resolution from the South Dublin Union requesting that the law of settlement should be extended to Ireland; and whether he is aware that the existing practice operates injuriously against Irish interests?

Mr. SHORTT

I have received the resolution referred to. As there does not appeal to be any general desire for the extension of the law of settlement to Ireland, I do not propose to take any action in the matter.

Mr. FIELD

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that paupers can be dumped into Ireland from other parts of Great Britain, and that the law does not extend to Great Britain as it does to Ireland?

Mr. SHORTT

I must ask for notice of that question.
