HC Deb 04 November 1918 vol 110 c1772
22. General CROFT

asked the Postmaster-General whether the subjects set in connection with the last examination for probationary sub-engineerships were determined by the Postmaster-General's Department or by the Civil Service Commissioners; if, and to what extent, his Department was responsible for the questions set; and if such subjects and questions represent the standard which will be required in future examinations for entry into the Post Office Engineering Branch?

The ASSISTANT-POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Pike Pease)

The subjects of examination for probationary sub-engineerships were settled conjointly by the Civil Service Commissioners and the Post Office eight years ago. The Civil Service Commissioners were responsible for the questions set at the examination. I cannot say what will be the future scheme of examination for admission into the higher grades of the Engineering Department.
