HC Deb 04 November 1918 vol 110 c1780
38. Mr. FFRENCH

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether he is aware that the farmers and traders of the parish of Hook and the surrounding neighbourhood, being so far from a railway station, suffer loss and inconvenience by the commandeering of the steamer "Duncannon" that used to trade between Duncannon and Waterford daily; and whether he can hold out any hope that the steamer will soon be restored to her former trade?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of SHIPPING (Sir Leo Chiozza Money)

I have been asked to reply to this question. This vessel was requisitioned to meet an urgent naval requirement and I am sorry that I am not in a position to say how soon it will be possible to release her.

Mr. FIELD

Is the hon. Gentleman aware of the enormous inconvenience caused to traders in all these towns by reason of the taking away of the steamer; and will he endeavour to provide that accommodation?

Sir L. CHIOZZA MONEY

Yes, Sir. There must, of course, be inconvenience in the matter. We are very sorry on that account and release will be made as soon as possible.
