HC Deb 04 November 1918 vol 110 c1786
48. Lord H. CAVENDISH-BENTINCK

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that, although a promise of reinstatement to men formerly employed in controlled establishments and now serving with the forces is contained in the Munitions of War Acts, these Acts provide no machinery whereby this promise or similar promises of reinstatement made to other classes of men now serving with the forces can be carried into effect; and whether, in these circumstances, it is proposed immediately to introduce a Bill dealing with the question?

Mr. BONAR LAW

This question is at present under consideration, and I am not in a position to make any statement in regard to it.

Lord H. CAVENDISH-BENTINCK

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the fulfilment by the Government of this obligation of honour is a condition precedent to making progress in the path of satisfying the claims of different grades of workers?

Mr. BONAR LAW

Yes, I am aware of this matter, and also that it is being considered now as quickly as it can be done.
