HC Deb 31 May 1918 vol 106 cc1123-4
2. Major Sir H. HAVELOCK-ALLAN

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that horses in heavy work are suffering from the bad quality and insufficient quantity of forage supplied to them; and whether he can see his way to obtaining an extra ration for equine heavy workers, as has been done in the case of human heavy workers?

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY TO THE BOARD OF TRADE (Mr. wardle)

My hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. Representations have been made to the Controller of Horse Transport in some few cases that the allowance of cereal foodstuffs under the most recent rationing Order is not sufficient for horses engaged in exceptionally heavy work. All such cases have been inquired into, and, when necessary, extra rations have been allowed.
