HC Deb 11 March 1918 vol 104 c35
57. Sir F. HALL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if his attention has been drawn to the number of pamphlets of closely printed matter enclosed in an envelope which are being circulated by banks recommending the purchase of National War Bonds; and whether, with the view of bringing important points clearly and concisely before the people of this country, he will consider the advisability of issuing attractive picture posters, depicting the atrocities committed by the Germans, which would catch the eye of the public and which could be utilised also for advertising the sale of National War Bonds?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. I am calling the attention of the National War Savings Committee to the suggestion made in the last part of the question.

Sir F. HALL

May I ask if this refers to the work of the new Committee under Mr. Vernet, referred to by the President of the Board of Trade, and is it a sample of the economic principle that is going to be adopted?
