Colonel SANDERSasked the Minister of National Service (1) whether he is aware that the pledge given by the Ministry of National Service in October last that the salaries of officers taken over from the War Office by the Ministry should take into consideration loss of further Army gratuities, increased Income Tax, and loss of travelling facilities, has not, in a large number of cases, yet been carried into operation; whether he has taken action in the manner; (2) whether any steps have yet been Liken with regard to granting personal allowances to officers on such a scale as adequately to correspond with the increased rate of pay recently announced to Army officers?
§ Mr. BECKThe pledge to which he refers has been met, and steps have been taken to grant personal allowances in 1981 proper cases which are commensurate with the recently increased rates of pay. Claims from officers concerned are being promptly dealt with by the Ministry of National Service as and when received.
