HC Deb 05 March 1918 vol 103 c1842
107. Mr. TILLETT

asked the Minister of Labour whether he has received intimation of the fact that the organised tramway and omnibus workers of the United Kingdom have given seven days' notice, terminating 9th March, entirely to withdraw their labour failing an extension to passenger vehicle workers of the Ask with award of 8th January providing for £l per week advance over pre-war wages granted to commercial vehicle workers; and whether, in view of the breakdown in the negotiations, he proposes to work jointly with the President of the Board of Trade to avoid an entire stoppage of the tramway undertakings of the country?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY Of LABOUR (Mr. Bridgeman)

Yes, Sir; my right hon. Friend has received such a notice. He has for some time been conferring with both sides and is continuing the conferences in the hope of reaching a settlement. He is also in consultation with the Board of Trade on the matter.
