HC Deb 05 March 1918 vol 103 cc1837-8
67. Mr. BYRNE

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Shipping Controller if he is aware of the discontent amongst the checking and clerical staff of the City of Dublin Company's steamers at present being worked under Government control; and if he will say when they will be paid an increase in wages or if they will receive the Committee of Production's award, as is paid to the staffs of other requisitioned steamers running from Dublin?

Sir L. CHIOZZA MONEY

The remuneration of the employés in question has been substantially improved since the ships were requisitioned. Their recent application is, I understand, now under consideration.

Mr. BYRNE

Does the hon. Gentleman mean to say that 3s. a week increase on the war bonus is a substantial increase?

Sir L. CHIOZZA MONEY

As I understand, the increase is more than that in many cases, but as I have informed my hon. Friend there are further applications now under consideration.
