HC Deb 04 March 1918 vol 103 c1691
19. Mr. OUTHWAITE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether at the time of the taking of the Marshall Islands the Japanese Government gave an undertaking to hand them over to the Commonwealth of Australia; whether he is aware of the apprehension that has been aroused in Australia by the immigration of a number of Japanese to the islands; and whether any representations have been made on the subject?

Mr. BALFOUR

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. The two last parts should, if asked at all, be addressed to the Colonial Office.
