§ 61. Mr. DUNCAN MILLARasked the Secretary for Scotland what progress has 1226 been made with the housing scheme for Lanarkshire which was sanctioned some months ago; and when building operations in connection with the erection of the 250 houses authorised will be commenced?
§ Mr. MUNROMy hon. and learned Friend is mistaken in referring to a sanctioned scheme. Any statements that have been made on behalf of the Government have always referred to the financial sanction which was necessary before the scheme could be proceeded with. This sanction was duly applied for, but is not as yet forthcoming. Correspondence is still passing, and I hope to make a further statement shortly.
§ Mr. MILLARIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that very considerable delay has already taken place in connection with this scheme, and that the local authorities concerned are very disappointed at that delay? In view of the urgent need of coming to a decision, will the right hon. Gentleman undertake that a decision shall be come to without any undue delay?
§ Mr. MUNROI am aware of the anxiety felt by the local authorities. I am also aware of the time that has elapsed since the first statement on the subject was made. I cannot, however, give an undertaking in respect of the latter part of the question of my hon. Friend. Certainly there has been, and will be, no avoidable delay on my part.
