HC Deb 26 June 1918 vol 107 c1026
11. Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he can say how many retired officers of the Royal Indian Marine have been given commissions in the Royal Navy during the War; how many of these officers have been promoted; and what is the minimum and maximum number of years' sea service done by retired Royal Indian Marine officers who have joined the Royal Navy during the War?

Dr. MACNAMARA

Thirty-four retired officers of the Royal Indian Marine have been given temporary commissions in the Royal Navy during the War. None of these has been promoted, but two who were entered as lieutenants were given the rank of lieutenant-commander on their representing that they held the corresponding rank of lieutenant over eight years' seniority in the Royal Indian Marine. In addition, two have been given higher acting rank while holding their present appointments. There is no information available as to the sea service of these officers.

Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKE

Is it intended to give any of these officers promotion?

Dr. MACNAMARA

That is a matter about which I must consult my naval advisers.
