HC Deb 25 June 1918 vol 107 c888
47. Sir H. COWAN

asked the Prime Minister whether, having regard to the uncertainty existing as to the position, under the Representation of the People Act, of women as Parliamentary candidates, he will take steps, by legislation or otherwise, to ensure that duly qualified women electors may be nominated as Parliamentary candidates?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I have nothing to add to the previous replies on this subject.

Sir H. COWAN

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that there are a considerable number of capable, highly qualified women desirous of becoming candidates?

Mr. BONAR LAW

Yes.

Sir C. HENRY

Is my right hon. Friend aware that there is no general desire for any such legislation?
