HC Deb 25 June 1918 vol 107 c861
4. Major NEWMAN

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether his attention has been called to a statement in an Allied Legislature that the German population has been deliberately and systematically under-estimated, in order to deceive rival nations for a number of years past, and that the true population was about 90,000,000 in 1914, and not the accepted figure of 68,000,000; and has he any official information to this effect?

The MINISTER of BLOCKADE (Lord R. Cecil)

I have seen a report in the Press that such a statement has been made, but I have no official information on the subject.
