HC Deb 25 June 1918 vol 107 c868
14. Sir J. BUTCHER

asked the Undersecretary of State for War whether he will state when it is proposed to issue a list of the honours to be awarded to the officers and men of the naval and military forces of the Crown who took part in the Gallipoli campaign; and whether he will recommend the issue as soon as may be of the Gallipoli medal and ribbon to those officers and men?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I am afraid that I am not quite clear as to what my hon. and learned Friend has in mind in the first part of his question. All recommendations for the award of decorations for services in the Gallipoli campaign have long since been disposed of and "gazetted," and there are no lists outstanding. As regards the last part of the question, I would refer to the replies which I gave to my hon. and gallant Friends the Members for Melton and Clitheroe on the 20th March last, and the answer on the 1st May by my right hon Friend the Secretary of State for the Colonies to a question by my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Reading.

Sir J. BUTCHER

Do I understand that the question of issuing the Gallipoli medal and ribbon to officers and men who took part in that campaign because of their gallantry is under consideration, and, if so, when will it be decided?

Mr. MACPHERSON

No; there is the larger question of consulting the Dominions and the Colonial Office.
