Mr. ROWLANDSasked the Undersecretary of State for War whether the German officers who escaped from the Water Lane Camp, Stratford, made a tunnel 40 feet long under the camp; how much time it is estimated these officers took to make the tunnel; what supervision there is over this camp; and is a thorough investigation being held into the conduct of the officials who are responsible for the security of these German prisoners?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONThe whole circumstances of these escapes will be thoroughly investigated by the Court of Inquiry which is being held.
§ Mr. ROWLANDSWill the Court of Inquiry investigate the questions whether a periodical survey is made of this place, and what was the staff on duty at the time these prisoners escaped?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONIt will investigate all the relevant facts, but I will call the attention of the Court of Inquiry to the point just raised by my hon. Friend.
