§ 22. Mr. ANDERSONasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food 1733 whether he has received complaints from Bermondsey as to the quality of meat supplied to that district; whether his attention has been drawn to the statement by the executive officer that the meat should have been condemned as unfit for food; and whether it is proposed to take any action in this matter?
§ The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of FOOD (Mr. Clynes)The answer to the first two parts of the question is in the affirmative. I gather, however, that the beef was merely unpalatable, and not unfit for food. I can only repeat that every effort is being made to improve the quality of imported meat, and I am glad to say that the stocks of lower-grade imported meat are rapidly being exhausted, and that subsequent shipments are expected to show a much desired improvement.
§ Captain CARR-GOMMWill the right hen. Gentleman make inquiries of the local food committee with a view to the serious complaints about these matters?
§ Mr. CLYNESIf the supplementary question relates to the subject of this particular question, I can make further inquiries.
