HC Deb 04 June 1918 vol 106 c1397
12. Mr. J. MASON

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether men of low medical grading who have been taken into the Army and shortly after have been returned for work on the land are still receiving full agricultural pay while living with their wives and families, who continue to draw full separation allowances; whether the pay and allowances of such men are often double the pay of other men working alongside them; and whether, in view of the dissatisfaction caused thereby in agricultural districts, he proposes to take any action in the matter?

Mr. FORSTER

Separation allowance will in future not be issued in respect of soldiers returned to work on the land who live at home and earn full civilian wages.

Mr. MASON

Does the right hon. Gentleman mean that in the cases of men already receiving separation allowance it will be stopped?

Mr. FORSTER

Yes, Sir.
