§ 14. Mr. GILBERTasked the Financial Secretary to the War Office what is the practice of his Department as regards the pay of officers and men who have been taken prisoner; are their accounts credited with full pay during the whole time they are detained; and can any prisoner, either officer or private, allot or pay over any part of such pay credited to his wife or family in this country?
§ Mr. FORSTEROfficers and men who are prisoners of war are credited with full pay, less, in the case of the officer, the amounts paid direct to them by the enemy. They are at liberty to deal as they wish with the whole of their credit. In the case 1399 of a man making a regular allotment, the amount of the allotment must not exceed three-fourths of his daily rate of pay.
