HC Deb 29 July 1918 vol 109 cc40-1
61. Sir J. D. REES

asked the Prime Minister whether the Government will defer the consideration of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill till after the General Election, in view of the fact that enfranchised women will within the next six months have an opportunity of expressing their all-important opinion upon this subject?

Mr. BONAR LAW

No, Sir. I would refer the hon. Member to the discussion on the Motion which was passed on Tuesday, 16th July.

Sir J. D. REES

Will the right hon. Gentleman reconsider this matter?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I do not think that there is much difference of opinion on that.

Mr. LEES-SMITH

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the majority of women's organisations are intensely hostile to this Bill, and does he intend to proceed with it before the women have had a chance of voting?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I understand that this Committee is set up to study the subject.
