HC Deb 29 July 1918 vol 109 cc36-7
46. Colonel McCALMONT

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the decision to require an oath of allegiance from every person who enters the Civil Service of the Crown, the Government, will, without casting any doubts upon the loyalty of Civil servants in general, take steps to place them all on an equal footing by calling on those already in the service to take a similar oath?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The answer is in the affirmative.

Mr. DEVLIN

Will that apply to those who belong to the Provisional Government in Ireland?

Mr. BONAR LAW

Has the hon. Gentleman set up a Provisional Government? I was not aware of it?

Mr. DEVLIN

I mean the Provisional Government, the Rebel Government that is now established in Government offices—that is the Rebel Government!

An HON. MEMBER

And the War Cabinet!

Mr. DEVLIN

Yes; and the War Cabinet!
