HC Deb 18 July 1918 vol 108 c1212
11. Mr. KING

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is now in a position to give some account of the progress of voluntary recruiting in Ireland; and on what date are figures to be published?

Mr. SAMUELS

I am informed by the Irish Recruiting Council that they have been mainly engaged up to the present on the work of organisation and preliminary propaganda. I am unable at present to say at what date figures will be published.

Mr. KING

In view of the fact that it would encourage others to know that some had already joined, and a warning also to know that the 50,000 required were in danger of not being obtained, can we have an authoritative statement of the numbers within a month?

Mr. SAMUELS

I am unable to state at present at what time the figures will be published.
